Do Awards Really Matter in Real Estate?

When browsing the real estate pages, you may encounter multiple agents who have won real estate awards. It’s common for people to value awards as they serve as evidence of success in their respective fields. As someone who has been working in the real estate industry for 17 years, I strive for excellence and put 110% effort into everything I do. I’ve had the privilege of being a RE/MAX Hall of Fame Award recipient for several years, and I’m honoured to have attained the following for 2023:

  • Top 5% of Edmonton REALTORS® – 2023*
  • #14 in entire brokerage for 2023 – out of over 220 agents
  • RE/MAX Platinum Club – 2021-2023
  • Volunteer awards for the brokerage – for our work in women’s advocacy and mentorship

I take pride in my achievements, but what truly matters to me are the relationships I build with my clients. Awards are a positive indication, but there are certain qualities that I value above all else, and anyone looking to hire a real estate professional should consider the following before making a decision.

How Well Do You Connect?

Do They Listen To What You Say?

While there are many exceptional realtors in the industry who work tirelessly, how well do they establish a personal connection with their clients? For me, it’s all about building a connection; it’s an intuitive feeling and the sense that you’re conversing with a friend. You know when you have a good connection because the conversation flows, and you feel like you’re receiving what you need from your agent.

Is your real estate agent taking the time to understand your needs? Are they showing you properties that meet most, if not all, of your requirements? The ability to listen is a crucial trait that all realtors should possess so they can assist you in the ways that matter to find your ideal home.

Do They Answer All the Questions You Have?

Can You Place Your Trust In Them?

It’s important to have accurate information about the real estate market to make informed decisions when you buy and sell. A real estate professional is a valuable resource to guide you through buying and selling real estate, and a good agent will go above and beyond to ensure you have the information you need. If you have a question that they are unable to answer, do they make an effort to research and provide a thorough response?

Is your real estate agent genuinely concerned about your satisfaction, or are they only focused on making a quick sale? If you’re a seller, are they setting a reasonable price for your property, or are they simply aiming for a fast transaction? If you feel that the price should be higher, initiate a discussion with them, listen carefully to their response, and evaluate whether their strategy is reasonable.

Do You Feel Pressured to Make a Move?

Do You Feel Supported In Your Home Search?

If you find your dream house within a week, that’s fantastic; however, if it takes three months, that is perfectly fine too. Every day new homes come on the market, so your agent should make you feel comfortable in moving at a pace that suits you.

For me, the process is not just about the home, it’s about finding the best home that fits your lifestyle. It’s about connecting you with the right resources to make this the best move for your family. If you’re new to the area, consider working with a professional who can provide you with resources to help you get settled more quickly.
